Our Work Team
Greg Yurko
Principal Engineer and Managing Partner - Greg graduated from the
University of Pittsburgh in 1983 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He worked
for Westinghouse on radar systems and nuclear power instrumentation hardware
and software design for 3 years. Following that, Greg worked for Union Switch
and Signal for 9 years developing software for transportation safety systems,
specifically cab signalling. He then worked for Respironics for 10 years where
he developed embedded software for respiratory therapy systems and eventually
became the Director of Engineering for Software Applications and Sleep Diagnostic
systems. Greg became a partner in SiGenix in 2005.
Dave Smail
Principal Engineer and Partner - Dave graduated from the University of Pittsburgh
in 1986 with B.S in Electrical Engineering. He moved to Baltimore after graduation and took a job with
Westinghouse Defense Systems where he designed digital processing hardware for advanced radar systems.
Dave's next career stop was in 1995 with what is now Bombardier Transportation in West Mifflin, PA.
He primarily wrote train control and propulsion software for 11 years for Bombardier until he became a
partner with SiGenix in the spring of 2006. .
Tom Schneider
Principal Engineer and Partner - Tom graduated from the University of
Pittsburgh in 1996 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation, Tom began
his career at Adtranz (now Bombardier Transportation) in West Mifflin, where he focused on
analog and digital hardware design for propulsion control. In 2004, he accepted a position
as hardware design engineer at Tollgrade Communications in Cheswick, PA, where he strengthened
his skills in digital hardware design and FPGA/CPLD design using VHDL. Tom joined SiGenix in
2007 as a principal hardware design engineer, becoming a partner in 2009.
Nik Shaffer
Associate Engineer - Nik graduated from Point Park University in 2005
with a BS in Electrical Engineering. While still in school, he worked for Sima Products
Corporation on consumer electronics development and weather radios, writing and testing software
until the end of the year. Nik then worked at Daedalus Excel for two years as the electrical
interface between the end customer and the in-house industrial designers and mechanical engineers.
He began working at SiGenix in 2007.
Jerry Joseph
Senior Hardware Engineer - Jerry graduated from Penn State with a BS in Electrical Engineering in
1981 and from Lehigh University with a MS in Electrical Engineering in 1988. Jerry began his career at
Bell Telephone Laboratories focusing on telecommunication system circuit design. With the breakup of the
Bell System, Jerry continued working for spin-offs Lucent Technologies and Agere Systems now involved
with semiconductor device design as a device designer, device architect, and applications engineer.
His experience includes analog and digital circuit design with emphasis on data packet switching,
data flow control, linear and switching power supplies. He began working at SiGenix in 2012
